Athletes Today, Leaders Tomorrow

Just as the captain of a sports team leads in the locker room, Creating Captains teaches young people to lead in our nation’s schools and communities. They are challenged to be courageous in the face of peer pressure, to become agents of change and to develop into future leaders.

Creating Captains’ message is built upon a foundation of four core values: Character, Courage, Leadership and Respect. These four pillars support a life of excellence and guide young athletes to be role models for their peers and leaders in their communities.

Character, Courage, Leadership, Respect

Creating Captains uses sports as a foundation to engage youth regardless of athletic ability, while addressing many of the social issues facing youth today. Issues such as

  • Higher Education
  • Making Good Decisions
  • Peer Pressure
  • Hazing
  • Bullying
  • Drugs and Alcohol
  • Team work
  • Healthy Lifestyles

Who Benefits?

Food Bank for the Heartland

BackPack programAn integral part of Creating Captains is to inspire youth to be leaders both on the field and in their communities. Creating Captains believes that giving back is an important part of leadership, and has started a partnership with both the Food Bank for the Heartland’s and the Lincoln Food Bank’s BackPack Programs. The Food Bank for the Heartland distributes nearly 3,900 backpacks each week to students in 80 schools across Nebraska and Western Iowa. The Lincoln Food Bank distributes 3,000 backpacks each week to students in 74 schools in Lincoln and rural communities in Southeast Nebraska. Creating Captains is proud to support an organization that benefits the same youth we try to serve.
